Cat's In The Bag

Well the cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river
Slip through the keyhole escape by a whisker
Duck down the alleyway live on the lam
Get on the bus Gus make a new plan

The basic track started off with Paul on drums and myself on guitar. We were improvising and recording everything we played. I later went back and found sections that I liked which were edited and looped. I also did tempo manipulation so all the improvised sections matched each other. The rest of the instruments and vocals were laid over top of that. I had read a review of some old film noir director and the review mentioned a line of dialog: "The cats in the bag and the bag is in the river". I went back and looked it up and found that the quote came from director Alexander Mackendrick's "Sweet Smell Of Success", from1957 (Starring Tony Curtis). Since my own song was written, I see that the phase made it into the TV series Breaking Bad, and a few other songwriters have used it also. I guess I know a good phrase when I hear it! I also like the horn parts and guitar solos on this track.
