Drive The Car

Sometimes the wind is in my face
Sometimes I gotta make my own space
And that's a good thing
If you're standing in the way of fate
If you don't mind please don't make me late
I'll tell you something

You gotta drive the car
You gotta turn the wheel
You will go so far
You got thunder appeal

When I am feeling all alone
Looking for my friends and my woman
I'm gonna find you

When I am missing all the signs
When I am making up my own mind
What you gonna do

Paul O'Grady gave me the title for this one. When Paul is talking about getting something done, he says that somebody has to take charge. Somebody has to "drive the car". I agree completely.
This recording was one of the first times I used my new Fender lap steel guitar. I still wasn't confident enough to solo on the slide, but the steel licks fit right in with the car motif. Yes, the phrase "thunder appeal" is lifted from "Let The Good Times Roll" by... The Cars. Rick O from the Cars was one of my original inspirations to start writing music.
